Is Back Gold really weed seed free?
The short answer, YES. Through our composting process the weed seed are destroyed by high temps. After we have finished the composting process we monitor our stock daily, HAND WEEDING any escapes that may make it through composting. This includes pig weeds (palmer amaranth). Though we cannot control the deposits made by passing animals we do our very best to provide a top quality compost
IS this NON-GMO?
We source our ingredients fresh from a cotton gin that processes multiple different varieties of GMO cotton. Through our research and diligent work to fine tune our composting process we have found that the way in which we compost our cotton destroys at least 97% of any living GMOs left in the cotton waste
Are there chemicals left in the compost?
We test our compost annually to insure that we have a top quality compost. These tests allow us to know what herbicides and pesticides are left in the compost after is has been composted. Which there are none left in the compost
How does this compare to mushroom compost?
Though we are very similar to mushroom compost, we are very different. We are very high in organic matter content. We have an excellent Cation Exchange rate, which is a soil’s ability to hold on to the fertilizers applied to it. We have an average NPK rating of 1.5N-0.5P-1.0K. Does Black Gold Cotton Compost Smell?
No, our compost does not have a foul ammonia-like odor like some other composts. Our compost has fully broken down which in turn has released all of its odor
